We are very proud to be able to say our toiletry hampers are now plastic-free! Our partnership with Raw Foundation in 2018 made us starkly aware of the scale of the plastic pollution problem. As a result, and in an effort to minimise our plastic impact as a company and spread awareness about this issue, we decided to make a few changes, one of which is to reduce the single-use plastic in our toiletry hampers. This was no mean feat as we found that most travel-sized toiletries, regardless of how “eco-friendly” they are, come in some form of plastic packaging. However, after a lot of searching and sampling, and help from our friends at Pic’n’Mix Festival Kit we succeeded in not only reducing the plastic packaging but COMPLETELY eliminating it! So, if you’re lucky enough to stay in one of our Gold Bell Tents or VIP Lotus Belles here’s what you’ll find in your toiletry hamper:
Beauty Kubes – Made in Cornwall by Eve of St Agnes (who also make the hydrating body cream found in our hamper), these award winning cubes for hair and body smell deliciously fresh and were featured in Mintel’s “10 Global Beauty Innovations launched in May”(1) this year. Each cube is the size of a sugar cube and one cube is enough to wash both hair and body, though long hair needs a cube to itself. Just hold the cube in the palm of your hand, add a little water and smoosh (yes, it’s a word, we checked) into a paste, rub over body and into hair, rinse with water et voila... you’re squeaky clean and ready to party and get dirty again! Oh, and they’re vegan friendly too.
Truthpaste – Handmade in Brighton, this natural, cruelty-free, mineral based toothpaste is a Portobello favourite! It comes in a little glass jar with little wooden spatulas, so you can share your truthpaste without any hygiene concerns, and leaves your mouth feeling zingy-fresh 🙂
The Pearly White Club – based in Buckinghamshire, PWC offer “a unique environmentally friendly toothbrush subscription service” with all toothbrushes being made from panda-friendly, ethically sourced bamboo. According to their website, the average person goes through 4-5 plastic toothbrushes a year, and we now know that most of those will end up in landfill or floating in our oceans, taking 100’s maybe 1,000’s of years to break down. Bamboo is both natural and biodegradable so when you throw your toothbrush away it will decompose without harming the environment. PLUS PWC have teamed up with “New Hope”, their local homelessness prevention charity, and for every toothbrush subscription received PWC donate a toothbrush to one of New Hope’s shelters. That should be enough to make you smile and show off your pearly whites!
All of the above comes in an unbleached, cotton wash bag with our logo printed on it using ecofriendly vegetable dyes and is yours to take home after the event. Furthermore, all of these companies are small, British businesses, just like us, which makes us doubly proud to be able support them in this way.
Aside from being a little bag of luxury, our hope is that our toiletry bag will also help spread awareness about plastic pollution and offer some insight into what we can all do to minimise our plastic waste. We hope that once you’ve tried these products you’ll carry on using them post-festival or at least for your travels, and join us in spreading the word and to…
BE FANTASTIC, FIGHT THE PLASTIC!
