Date: TBC
Location: Eridge Deer Park, Sussex

Brought to us by the inimitable From the Fields team, (also behind Kendal Calling, Bluedot and Live From Jodrell Bank), Forgotten Fields made its debut last summer and was received with wild acclaim, tickets selling out well ahead of time and drawing some extremely high-profile names. This year it’s back and better, again promising some incredible headlines and a refreshing mixture of up and coming and local talent. Capped at 4000, it retains a sense of intimacy and distinction.

“A very British festival”, as one guest put it; set in the beautiful Eridge Deer Park, which forms part of the stunning Ashdown Forest, this is a setting that exemplifies why England in the summer is surely one of the loveliest places on earth. Beneath the shelter of countless ancient trees, where dappled sunlight dances its way down to the grassy floor, a wonderful collection of music, performers and happy folk thrive. With a charismatic old-time travelling circus feel, the aesthetics of your surroundings can only enhance the overall festival experience.

Set over six different stages, there’s a good range of different music to enjoy. The main stage, imaginatively named the Mainstage, which has welcomed such hallowed guests as Basement Jaxx and Super Furry Animals, you will find the main headliners. The Horizons stage features up and coming artists from the local area, and later on becomes After Dark, offering dance music, with house, techno, funk & soul and a few fillers in the gaps. The Gypsy Disco is a scene of much furore and fuss; in the best possible way. With belly dancers, fire-breathers and thumping rhythms, this area will really get you moving. Tim Peaks will be hosting the House Party; where apparently, “anything goes”.

Beyond the music, there’s much, much more; the Cinema, which will be screening anything from Indiana Jones to WallE, the Home of the Unknown, where you can expect to witness a plethora of surprising and exciting occurrences; whether it’s a pyjama party (for the youngsters) a UV rave or a feast of karaoke, they only ask that you leave your inhibitions at the door and join the revels with gusto! The Campsite Café is, as the name suggests, a café in the heart of the campsite; stock up on scrumptious nutrients and catch up with your friends. There’s also a Shisha Lounge planned…

For the kids, Bigtopmania will be returning with their fun-filled activities and imaginative kids’ entertainment. Whether they’re wobbling about on unicycles, bouncing on mega balls, or dancing the day away in Big Bear’s Big Balloon Disco, they’ll be having no end of fun. There’s also a Ferris wheel and lovely old roundabout, where you can strap yourself into a diminutive seat and be whirled around with reckless abandon – heady stuff.

There will be a gorgeous array of art installations too; rewards for your eyes as well as your ears. There is also a theme to follow; this year’s hasn’t yet been announced however last year they enjoyed the riotous suggestions of ‘wild things’. Don’t hold back when it comes to fancy dress…

In the heart of the High Weald countryside, Eridge Deer Park is purportedly one of the oldest enclosed deer parks in England; in the Domesday Book it is listed as belonging to Odo, William the Conqueror’s brother. It is an exceptionally delightful area and a real pleasure to enjoy. Camping in such a location is never a chore, however if you want to find a way to make it as heavenly as it should be, treat yourself to a little luxury camping. Deciding whether or not to glamp at Forgotten Fields is as easy as choosing between a crick in the neck and a damp sleeping bag over memory-foam mattresses and high thread count linen. You know what to do…
