Portobello Tents was founded from a love of the English countryside, a good party, and the desire to sleep in luxury once those dancing shoes come off!
Our crew have pulled together their skills, providing stylish & luxurious ethically sourced canvas camps at festivals, weddings, parties and events all over the UK and beyond. There is something undeniably magical about sleeping outside under canvas. We offer a perfect balance of fresh country air combined with luxury; all our tents have memory foam mattresses, 200 thread count fresh linen, atmospheric lighting and lockable doors. Stay with us and find yourself refreshed.
Our Portobello Tents logo, the triangle with a line at the top, is a glyph meaning ‘explore’. We love the idea of exploring with our customers; finding inspiration along the way and creating beautiful events that are as individual as they are breathtaking.
Portobello Tents pride ourselves on delivering a slick, fun and professional service.
Laura heads the team. She launched Portobello Tents with help from her brother, Charles, who has spent years working in events management and is a director of Noisily Festival.
With her background in interior design and chalet hosting, Laura thrives on working alongside great people, meeting and greeting guests, and understands the importance of fresh and beautiful accommodation!
Nikki arrived to help at our second ever job and whipped us into shape - right-hand woman, interiors manager and planning whizz; she loves a spreadsheet! With a career in local government and a lot of festivals under her belt, Nikki then moved to Argentina to explore before returning to run our interiors and on-site guest hospitality team.
She is wonderfully calm and collected and, with the most natural aptitude for making people feel welcome, is often found socialising with our guests. Glitter always in place!
HUGO MORRIS ADAMS
Our old Site Manager and all round hero- he keeps trying to leave but comes back much to everyone's delight! He's unflappable and keeps everyone in check without ever raising his voice. Hugo's father owns a marquee company and what he doesn't know about canvas isn't worth knowing.
Hugo has a degree in philosophy and is often found debating anything from existence to disco!
Stefan is our warehouse manager and has been with us from our first Bluedot Festival. He fast became one of our favourite tall people (tall people are extremely handy!).
If there's a way to do something quicker and better than before, Stef will find it. He's also amazing at keeping up morale on those not-so-sunny days. We hope to keep hold of him for a good few seasons while he studies Fine Art on a scholarship- clever egg!
Luke, Lucy, Lucinda... depending on how much of a diva he's being. Site Manager, Telehandler extraordinaire, Lotus Belle King, logical mind, Somerset dream team. Luke's a tree surgeon who lives on a Christmas tree plantation- ask him how many Christmas trees he had up at home last year...
Often found juggling mallets, balancing things on his chin and the only person who orders chocolate in a pub!
A true Portobello Pixie from the beginning. With a degree in theatre design and an ability to smile, smile, smile... Victoria is the ray of sunshine in the soft build team. Always perfectly turned out even in the winds of Wales or heat of Cheshire. She creates the best festival outfits. The fastest and neatest bed maker in all the land.
Victoria gets on with everyone and even once won an award for the best flirt at university!
No one can put up a prettier bell tent than Alwyn, fact. A Somerset boy who's father has played Glastonbury more times than probably anyone else. Alwyn came to help for a few days and then just kinda stayed... he bought along Hugo and Dave who then bought along Luke and Hägen.
Alwyn is known to be found in the girls crew tent being covered in glitter before heading into a festival.
South African born, UK bred, German blood. Another tree surgeon- Hägen and Luke met studying how to hang out of trees with chainsaws. He likes a dare... our favourite to date is having the Portobello logo tattooed on him.
After a long day on the field when the crew sit down to relax Hägen will keep everyone entertained with his fire staff skills.
A talented jeweller who can fashion pretty much anything out of metal. Kit has the naughtiest laugh around and can tie a person up using only their own limbs- these don't necessarily come together! A monkey once tried to steal her passport in Cape Verde and when she told it off it bit her.
She's scared of feet and the sea.
Ed is quite simply one in a million - a hugely talented Herefordshire carpenter who's made us beds, clothes rails and blanket boxes.
He can fix practically anything and is always offering to do more... never is Ed asked to do something as he's already done it! Everyone loves him and Nikki keeps threatening to call his parents to tell them what a good job they've done!
If Ed isn't standing on his hands then he can be found on the dancefloor at festivals wearing his jester's hat!
Born in Russia, bred in England. Away from life's diverse distractions, Masha is an artist, performer and art facilitator to adults with special needs. She joined our interiors team as an old friend of Nikki's, with her great friend Kit... we're all friends!
Masha made marmalade a little while ago: red wine in one hand, stirring with the other. Tasting along the way. Turns out fermented grape, orange rind and a lot of sugar aren't such a delicious mix!
Pop-to-the-shop-for-us... this really doesn't work in trying to remember how to spell Alex's last name however much he tries to convince us! Alex fast became a favourite amongst the crew for his mad riddles which no one can slove (we're not sure they're even riddles) and his constant good humour.
Alex is seen here enjoying a new outfit claimed from festival clothes left for rubbish by guests. There's never a dull moment with Alex!
Bouncing with positivity and sparkles, lover of unicorns and rainbows, Shelley is one of Nikki’s dearest friends. Born and raised on a farm, a true grafter with a practical, no-nonsense attitude and is always happy to muck-in whenever, wherever she’s needed. A talented graphic designer she also designed our “Be Fantastic, Fight the Plastic” info leaflet you’ll find in our tents.
When not in the fields with us she’s either event producing, designing, travelling, writing or doing something generally creative… a true Wonder Woman!
Our token Welshman, able seaman and all round lovely fella. Dave joined us in our first year and helped save the day at a very rainy Festival No.6.
You’ll often see him with a furry shadow in tow, that’ll be his beloved Collie Roy, who’s never too far from his heels and loves to go for a ride around site in the gator with him. Dave was once a keen snowboarder but a broken back and leg (ouch!) sadly put an end to his days on the slopes. Now he’s turned his attention to the sea, a life on the ocean waves and surfing is how he spends his winters now.
Actor, photographer and wind-up merchant. Andy managed to convince the rest of the crew whilst at a job in France in 44 degree heat that Laura wanted to move 10 fully furnished tents by 15cm each... Luckily we've now worked out his nose wiggles a bit when he's not quite telling the truth.
About to hit the big time which is great for him but not for us!
Molly is the costume queen, what she doesn't know about costume making isn't worth knowing. She learnt to finesse her skills whilst studying Theatre Design where she met her two summer tentmates, Viks and Alice and is now a successful Set & Costume Designer.
Always looking stylish, our cool, dressed to impress, token Scouser has combined her knowledge and is now the proud owner and maker of the festival brand, Studio Apex. She makes up one half of the fabulous and well choreographed bed making duo, Malice and gives love, care and conversation to anyone, anywhere, anytime.
Alice met Viks and Molly studying Theatre Design in Liverpool where she now works as a Set Designer and Maker.
Bred by the country folk of Leicestershire, she loves being outside whether that be walking, running up or dancing on top of hills or in a quaint pub garden.
Her deceptive strength helps her well choreographed, bed making duo, Malice during the festival season, whilst in the evenings you're likely to find her jumping to splits on the dancefloor.
Half Portuguese, half Scottish with two degrees and a past career as a physiotherapist, Annie is fascinated by what makes people tick and loves sharing good times with happy souls – in her own words ‘it’s what I love about the Portobello team’! Now a yoga teacher, baker, surfer, potter, traveller and polyglot.
Annie is logical, practical and bloomin’ great to have around – her immediate goal is to buy a van and properly embrace her free spirit once and for all… Go Annie!
DAVE 'FLAILIN' DURANT
Flailin, nicknamed for his long arms which are constantly moving, is best loved for his fabulous hair and dry wit... If you're lost at a festival you'll find Flailin, guaranteed! He has a degree in politics and loves to make a sign.
Owner of a fabulous collection of quite extraordinary colourful waistcoats!
